The District of Kent have responded to tighter health restrictions amid the second wave surge of COVID-19.
In a release sent out Monday (Nov. 23), the district announced the Community Recreation and Cultural Centre will operate with strict COVID-19 safety plans in place with a revised, limited schedule of events, available on their website at kentbc.ca. Face masks are required at Municipal Hall and the CRCC as well as all public indoor settings and workplaces; for those unable to wear masks due to health conditions but still require services from the district, they are advised to call ahead so that alternate service delivery arrangements can be made. On Thursday, Nov. 19, Provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry ordered tighter restrictions across the province amid record-breaking COVID case numbers across the province, particularly in the Fraser Health region, of which the district is a part. The new orders require masks to be worn in all public indoor settings and workplaces. District Council meetings are exempt from the gathering rule, but COVID-19 safety protocols such as contact tracing, social distancing and face masks are in place.

Dr. Henry’s orders further prohibits social gatherings of any size outside of those outside the household bubble; there are very limited exceptions for those who live alone. Workplaces must ensure all workers and customers maintain physical distances and to take special care in close quarters, including frequent hand washing and wearing masks.
Locally speaking, there has been one documented outbreak at the Agassiz Seniors Community, which will have been a month long as of Nov. 24 (Tuesday). There has been one exposure event at Agassiz Elementary Secondary School, which after about two weeks was removed from Fraser Health’s school exposure list.
