You might have noticed some slowdowns on the Agassiz-Rosedale Bridge during your commute recently.

The B.C. Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure (MOTI) is working on installing a cycling detection system onto the bridge in hopes of improving safety for those using active transportation over the bridge. Safety for cyclists and pedestrians on the bridge has been a hot topic in recent weeks.

“This system will notify drivers when there is a cyclist on the bridge so they can drive with caution and watch for cyclists as they travel over the bridge,” a MOTI spokesperson told The Observer.

Construction efforts can result in single-lane, alternating traffic along the bridge. MOTI estimates construction will be complete by the end of March.
