Earthwise Agassiz is getting into the spirit of Earth Day.

Earthwise is celebrating Earth Day with a planting event, planting indigenous plants along the Miami River from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, April 22.

“This is a great opportunity to learn more about Earthwise Agassiz, get a firsthand look at their ongoing habitat stewardship initiatives, discover the beauty of the many different ecosystems on-site, and learn how you can get involved,” Earthwise stated.

The event begins with a guided tour across the 58-acre property at 6031 Golf Road for newcomers to get acquainted with the property followed by refreshments at the farmhouse at 11 a.m. From there, participants will head into the field to plant under the guidance of Earthwise staff and volunteers.

Plants indigenous to the area are especially valuable to the ecosystem, providing shelter and food for indigenous wildlife, which in turn can gradually create a healthier, restored ecosystem.

Earthwise Agassiz is home to diverse ecosystems, walking trails and a working organic teaching farm.
