Corn? Growing.
King? Soon.
Things are shaping up for the Agassiz Fall Fair and Corn Festival to make a triumphant return in 2021. The District of Kent Council unanimously approved the parade route for the annual parade, which is slated for Sept. 18 this year.
The parade would start at 10 a.m., moving east on Cheam Avenue to Highway 9. From there, the parade travels to Pioneer Avenue and onward to the fairgrounds.

Earlier this month, the Agassiz Agricultural and Horticultural Association (AAHA) announced West Coast Amusements will be back at the fair with games and carnival rides Friday through Sunday, Sept. 17 to 19. In May, fair organizers said there would be a modified version of the autumn festivities, including online exhibitions, a tractor display and the famous chicken and corn barbecue.
Nathan Hertgers was last year’s Corn King, the 72nd to hold the honour. John Hoogendoorn was the runner-up with Holger Schwichtenberg taking third place.

Last year’s events were toned down due to the pandemic. In addition to the Corn King coronation, the modified festival included the barbecue, a two-night drive-in theatre event and a colouring contest for the kids.
