Last-minute moderator swap announced by forum organizers Oct. 8, 2024.

There's a new moderator in place for the Oct. 10 All-Candidates Forum at the Chilliwack Cultural Centre presented by the Chilliwack Chamber of Commerce and the Downtown Chilliwack BIA.

"In order to maintain a non-partisan approach the moderator for Thursday's debate has been changed," according to the brief update post on the Chilliwack Politics  Facebook page from the Chilliwack Chamber of Commerce.

Chilliwack Chamber of Commerce CEO Leanna Kemp is replacing Rachael Segal as moderator, according to Kemp's post on social media.

CBC identified Segal recently as a "campaign representative" for the Conservative Party of BC.

Segal is described in on her online bio as a lawyer and the founder of Beyond a Ballot, which aims to get women more engaged in politics. She is also a "former issues and policy advisor to senior members of the Canadian Federal Cabinet and the Canadian Senate," according to her LinkedIn info.

Kemp explained in the thread that when Segal was booked for the event she was not aligned with a party, but in the past week it was made clear she was aligned with the B.C. Conservative election campaign.

"Our apologies for any inconvenience. We look forward to Thursday's forum," Kemp said.

Registration for the event is "appreciated" but not mandatory, and those who can't attend can watch the livestream via the Chamber website.
