Replica handguns, drugs and stolen items were seized by Chilliwack RCMP officers during what should have been a routine call from a landlord during a rental home visit.

It was March 20, when Mounties got the request to be there and keep the peace for the landlord at the rental home in the 46000-block of Arbutus Avenue.

When a handgun was spotted inside the home, the dwelling was quickly cordoned off by frontline officers.

That evening, officers executed a search warrant at the residence. Four replica handguns were found along with ammunition, cellphones, cannabis, and property police believe to be linked to retail thefts.

“Expecting the unexpected then shifting gears to meet that challenge is a way of life for RCMP general duty officers who are dedicated to the safety of our community,” said Chilliwack RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Mike Rail in a press release.

RCMP continue to gather evidence as officers pursue their investigation into the property seized during the execution of the search warrant.
