The shooting of Wayward Pines is just about ready to wrap up, after months of sporadic filming activity.
As this is the last episode of the 10-episode dramatic series, some intense action is expected on set, Apr. 1 and Apr. 2. Only those who have read the Blake Crouch novels on which the television is based will know how this series ends, with its plot twists and high level of secrecy on set.
Actor Matt Dillon has been seen on set with fake injuries and blood, a result of a vehicle accident in the opening of the series premiere. But location manager David Tamkin is advising parents to keep their children away from the set during this last shoot, as graphic makeup will be used to portray both seriously injured and dead characters.
There will also be simulated gunfire and smoke special effects, as things seem to have taken a turn for the worst in Wayward Pines.
Tamkin said that this is quite possibly the last shoot. Site preparation begins late this week, and the shooting is expected to run from 4 p.m. on Apr. 1 to 5 a.m. Apr. 2. The film set will remain in place for at least one week following the shoot, in case anymore filming needs to take place, Tamkin added.
After that, the set will be torn down and the stretch of Pioneer that has been transformed by the film crew (from Park St. to Evergreen Dr.) will be restored to its previous state.
"We anticipate that the wrap of the entire block, including the removal of the sidewalk we installed on the north side of the street and the restoration of Pioneer Park, will take two to three weeks to complete," Tamkin said. "We hope that by May 1, the area will be completely returned to how it was prior to our arrival last summer."
Wayward Pines, starring Dillon, Carla Gugino, Terrence Howard and Juliette Lewis, is expected to begin airing late summer.
Next week's action isn't the first time special effects have been used on set. Previous shoots have included the explosion of a delivery truck, and a vehicle on fire.
