This past weekend there were numerous new standby and evacuation notices issued in the Thompson-Nicola Area and the Cariboo Regional District.

The majority of evacuees were directed to Prince George and Kelowna area. As expected, some evacuees headed south.

The emergency response is being coordinated by the province with two additional regional reception/information centres operating in Chilliwack and Surrey.

Kent-Harrison Emergency Social Services (KHESS) continues to refer evacuees to these regional centres where the necessary support services are available.

The KHESS team has been handling and will continue to handle any special cases that cannot move on to these regional centres.

Mayor Van Laerhoven stated that “the District of Kent has provided one member of the Agassiz RCMP detachment to assist in the evacuated areas and is committed to continuing to support the province in their coordinated efforts including communicating our available resources.”

Emergency Management BC is looking for trained emergency social services volunteers to support the two regional reception centres.
