In a rare video address, Harrison Hot Springs Mayor Leo Facio reiterated the need for visitors to stay away from the village during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“For the health and safety of our residents, public works crew and for yourselves, please do not visit our community, not even for a stroll, a hike, ride or a drive,” Facio said in a 43-second speech posted Tuesday, April 7. “Our community beaches, parks and facilities remain closed to visitors, and our bylaw enforcement officer is on duty to assist in the enforcement of the public health orders.”
Facio said the village would gladly welcome tourists and visitors back “when it is safe to do so.”

On Wednesday, Facio released an open letter to the residents to continue physical distancing efforts, which is especially important going into the holiday weekend.
“I understand it may be difficult to not be able to get together at this time, but we appreciate the sacrifices you are making to help stop the spread of COVID-19,” the mayor wrote. “We need to hold the line against the virus and together we can do this if everyone is 100 per cent in. We must be unwavering in our fight for our health.”
Provincial Health Officer Bonnie Henry does encourage taking brief walks outside for exercise and health so long as physical distancing of at least two metres between people is observed. Continue to wash your hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If you experience symptoms of COVID-19, please self-isolate for a minimum of 10 days.
The Village of Harrison Hot Springs has distributed flyers directed to seniors in the area with valuable coronavirus-related information. For those who have not received a flyer, you are encouraged to call the Village Office at 604-796-2171 during regular business hours to ensure one is sent to you.
He concluded his Tuesday address on a grateful, optimistic note.
