Local COVID-19 data sees infection decline for five straight weeks: BCCDC

This past week marks five straight weeks of COVID-19 numbers dropping across B.C. and right here in Agassiz-Harrison.

According to the latest information from the B.C. Centre for Disease Control, between Feb. 6 and Feb. 12, there were seven new cases of COVID-19 in the Agassiz-Harrison local health area. This is down from 12 cases the week before. There has been a total of 172 cases of COVID-19 in Agassiz-Harrison since the beginning of the year.

Agassiz-Harrison follows the remainder of Fraser Health in low COVID-19 rates, according to the latest data; the 50-plus totals the community experienced at the beginning of the year has yet to show signs of return as it’s been on a steady decline since mid-January.

To date, there have been no reported exposure events or outbreaks in Agassiz-Harrison schools in 2022.

Vaccination rates are categorized slightly differently as of Feb. 14 to consolidate data; the 12+ category is now the 5+ category. Here are the vaccination rates by age group. Changes are in bold:

Ages 5-11: 37 per cent partially vaccinated

Ages 5 +: 78 per cent fully vaccinated (83 per cent partially vaccinated)

Ages 12 to 17: 67 per cent fully vaccinated (72 per cent partially vaccinated)

Ages 18+: 84 per cent fully vaccinated (88 per cent partially vaccinated)

Ages 18 to 49: 77 per cent fully vaccinated (83 per cent partially vaccinated)

Ages 50+ : 89 per cent fully vaccinated (91 per cent partially vaccinated)

Ages 70+ with booster: 79 per cent
