After nearly four weeks of burning, the wildfires surrounding Harrison Lake are showing significant signs of slowing down.
The B.C. Wildfire Service reports the Long Island fire that triggered an island-wide evacuation is now under control, holding at 256 hectares on the island’s north side. The Big Silver Creek (3 hectares) and Hornet Creek No. 1 (0.9 hectares) are also under control.
The evacuation order for Long Island was cancelled on Monday.

The only area wildfire still listed as out-of-control as of Thursday (Aug. 19) is Clear Creek. It was once at 700 hectares and is now estimated to be 465 hectares in size, shrinking by 235 hectares.
Clear Creek No. 2 and Clear Creek East wildfires are minimal in size and are being monitored, showing no recent signs of growth.
The cooler, wetter weather offered some reprieve for the local wildfire scene.
As of Thursday afternoon, there are 256 wildfires burning in B.C., totalling 1,528 for the year to date.
