Manning Park ski hill remains closed, as the resort awaits more snowfall

Neither nordic nor alpine enthusiasts can hit the Manning Park Resort trails yet

Manning Park Resort is asking guests to pray for more snow this week, as the lack of powder has delayed the ski hill from opening on Dec. 1 and 2 as planned.

Neither fans of cross-country skiing nor downhill activities are able to head to Manning until more snow arrives. A recent snowstorm brought some snow to the area, a resort newsletter stated, but not enough to safely open the ski hill. The opening date is still to be determined.

“Although we have typically been heralding the start of winter at this time of year, it’s not unusual to wait until mid-December for our snow base to arrive, although we have been fortunate in the past few seasons,” the newsletter stated.

The resort is offering guests snowshoeing, stargazing, outdoor ice skating and tobogganing as they wait for the hill to open.

Despite the delayed start, Manning Park Resort is still putting on its annual Christmas events as per tradition. Among them are the Dec. 23 lantern-making workshop, Dec. 24 torchlight parade and meet Santa evening and a Christmas Day ski with Santa.
