Michael Nenn has been acclaimed as the NDP candidate for the riding of Mission-Matsqui-Fraser Canyon.

Originally from Edmonton, Nenn has lived in B.C. since 2003 and moved to Mission in 2012 when he married Janet, a local teacher. He is a father of three young children.

“We need to protect our diverse and vibrant environment,” Nenn said, adding his family’s love for camping makes climate change a critical issue for him.

Nenn volunteers as a Parent Advisory Chair at his children’s school and has also held many positions within the local NDP executives, both provincial and federal.

No stranger to politics, Nenn has run for office both municipally for Mission and provincially/municipally in Abbotsford.

He believes this has given him an in-depth knowledge of the local challenges and concerns facing the community.

Nenn’s enthusiasm for politics, and dedication to his community and family was evident in his nomination speech which detailed the many issues that face the constituents in his riding, most notability families struggling to keep up with affordability and increased costs while facing an uncertain future with climate change.

Nenn is the fifth candidate to put his name up in the Mission-Matsqui-Fraser Canyon riding. Current MP Jati Sidhu will be running for the Liberals, while Brad Vis will be re-running with the Conservatives, John Kidder will be running with the Greens and Nick Csaszar will be running with the new People’s Party of Canada.

The federal election is scheduled for Oct. 21.
