There have been two COVID-19 exposures reported in two days in Agassiz schools.

On Thursday, Nov. 4, Fraser Health reported an exposure event at Agassiz Elementary Secondary School on Oct. 25 and 26. This is one of three active exposure events in Fraser Cascade School District 78. The other two are at Kent Elementary (Oct. 21, 25 26, 27 and 28) and at Coquihalla Elementary in Hope (Oct. 26 and 27).

There have been eight exposure events since the beginning of the 2021-22 school year within the district, seven of which have occurred in Agassiz schools – three each at AESS and Kent Elementary and one at Agassiz Centre for Education.

An exposure means someone who has tested positive for COVID-19 has attended school during the listed dates. It is not the same thing as an outbreak; an outbreak is declared when evidence of transmission has been discovered between the COVID-19 positive individual and at least one other person. There has not been an outbreak at any school within the district this year.

Attending school during the dates of an exposure event does not necessarily mean your child has COVID-19. If there is any action that needs to be taken such as self-isolation or self-monitoring, Fraser Health will directly contact anyone affected.

Fraser Health’s recommendations from last year are unchanged – those who are able to and do not have COVID-19 symptoms should continue to attend school.
