There were just over 20 donations that came out of Agassiz-Harrison, according to a leaked list of donors to the anti-mandate convoy’s GiveSendGo campaign.

GiveSendGo is a self-described Christian crowdfunding site. Hackers reportedly took down the site and leaked data of 92,000 donors, including donor names, emails, donation amounts, postal codes, comments and IP addresses, all allegedly connected to the convoy’s GiveSendGo campaign.

The Observer searched for local donors using five major postal codes in the area.

The leaked data suggests approximately 22 separate donations may have originated from Agassiz-Harrison, ranging between US$15 and $1,175; three donations met or exceeded $1,000. The average donation was about $225.

Most local donors offered messages of support to the convoy. Some voiced their frustration with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, the government and social media while encouraging would-be donors to pull their funding from the convoy’s now-defunct GoFundMe campaign and funnel it into the GiveSendGo campaign instead.

The GoFundMe campaign supporting the convoy was shut down on Feb. 4 due to alleged violations of its terms of service. GoFundMe said it was acting on “evidence from law enforcement that the previously peaceful demonstration has become an occupation, with police reports of violence and other unlawful activity.” This prompted the move to GiveSendGo as a prospective funding source, and as of Tuesday, the GiveSendGo page is back online after the hack and accepting donations.

As of Tuesday afternoon, donors raised approximately $9.3 million of its $16 million goal – approximately 58 per cent of the goal. The total funding raised in Agassiz-Harrison is just under $5,000, or about 0.0003 per cent of the final $16 million goal.

According to the leaked information, 55 per cent of donations for the convoy are from the United States and 38 per cent are from Canada.
