October’s COVID-19 totals in Agassiz-Harrison less than half of September: BCCDC

14 new cases recorded between Oct. 24 and 30

Agassiz-Harrison’s COVID-19 numbers have reached double digits again.

According to the latest data from the B.C. Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC), Agassiz-Harrison has recorded 14 new cases of COVID-19 between Oct. 24 and 30. This is up eight cases since the previous week and brings October’s total to approximately 43 cases of COVID-19. While there were some higher-than-average weeks in October, the recent statistics are much lower than September’s, which saw some of the worst local pandemic-related numbers on record, totaling just over 100 cases.

Agassiz-Harrison saw a total of 95 cases of COVID-19 throughout 2020. To date, there have been 354 cases of COVID-19 in Agassiz-Harrison in 2021 with an average of just over eight cases per week.

There are two active COVID-19 exposure events in Agassiz schools – at Kent Elementary (Oct. 21, 25 to 28) and Agassiz Elementary Secondary (Oct. 25 , 26). There have been no recent outbreaks in Agassiz-Harrison.

In terms of vaccination rates, nearly 80 per cent of the eligible local population has been fully vaccinated (84 per cent partially vaccinated), as of Nov. 1. 12 to 17-year-olds are 61 per cent fully vaccinated (68 per cent partially vaccinated).

The 18-plus demographic has achieved 80 per cent full vaccination (85 per cent partially vaccinated). 68 per cent of Agassiz-Harrison residents between the ages of 18 and 49 are fully vaccinated (78 per cent partially vaccinated). The 50-plus local population has reached 87 per cent full vaccination (90 per cent partially vaccinated).

There are no upcoming vaccine clinics for the Agassiz-Harrison area. The nearest ongoing clinic is in Chilliwack at the Chilliwack COVID-19 Testing and Immunization Centre at 9090 Newman Road, daily from 8:30 a.m. to 3:15 p.m.

There is also a vaccination clinic in Hope running Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. at the Hope COVID-19 Testing and Immunization Centre at 1275 7th Avenue.
