The original ink tank that helped print the Abbotsford News for many years is being salvaged for a good cause.
The developers of the old site on Gladys Avenue will be demolishing the well-known building in February as they prepare to build new housing. Diverse Properties has announced that the ink tank will be salvaged, with the money going to the Salvation Army.
They will also be donating a large collection of show home furniture to the centre for resale.
“In this season of giving, Diverse has partnered with the Abbotsford Mission Salvation Army Centre of Hope - to donate money raised from the buildings salvaged materials, some of its show home furniture and other useful household items,” said Greg Lowe, Diverse’s vice president of sales and marketing.
The company has been storing a collection of furniture and household items for staging show homes in the the building.
“It seemed to make sense to donate these valuable resources to the Salvation Army, who is not only located within proximity to this site but is also aligned with our vision to bring renewal and positive change to this area of Abbotsford,” said P.L. Meindertsma, Diverse partner and vice president of development.
The Salvation Army says the donation has come at a great time of need in the community, due to many recent events, and that they are “honoured” to be partnering with Diverse.
“With the ongoing COVID challenges and the added devastation from the recent floods and landslides, we are experiencing an increased demand upon our services,” said Rob Studiman, community ministries director. “This generous donation will allow us to continue to provide comfort and hope to those greatly impacted as well as the most vulnerable in our community at Christmas and moving forward into 2022.”
Diverse Properties is an Abbotsford-based, integrated group of real estate development construction and financing companies.
