UPDATE: Man, 25, killed by train on CN tracks at Lickman Road in Chilliwack

‘Our thoughts and sincere condolences go out to the man’s family and friends,’ say RCMP

Emergency responders were called to a fatal train incident in Chilliwack before 8:30 a.m. Monday morning at Lickman Road near Progress Way.

Chilliwack RCMP and B.C. Coroners Service continue to investigate the incident that killed a 25-year-old man with ties to Chilliwack.

“Criminality is not believed to be a factor at this stage of the investigation,” said spokesperson Sgt. Krista Vrolyk of the Chilliwack RCMP.

“Our thoughts and sincere condolences go out to the man’s family and friends, and all those affected by this loss.”

After the incident the train engine was stopped west of the tracks. Lickman Road was closed at Progress Way initially but was later re-opened to traffic after 1 p.m.

Chilliwack Fire Department were called out first, and later told to stand down.

RCMP was on-scene with B.C. Ambulance personnel, along with CN Rail crews who arrived with engineering personnel.
