Police are hoping to identify a Good Samaritan who helped a sexual assault victim in Vancouver last week.

Vancouver police say they received a call Friday from a woman saying she was sexually assaulted just after midnight on Dec. 15.

The woman said she was walking on Main Street near East 17 Avenue when a man came up to her and offered to help her make a phone call.

She told police the man then overpowered and sexually assaulted her.

Police believe the man was startled and fled west.

Investigators say the man was white, 30 to 40 years old, five-foot-six with a stocky build, bulging eyes and dirty hands. He was believed to be wearing a black puffy jacket with red fleece underneath, and oversized pants.

The woman told police a Good Samaritan found her after the assault and walked with her a “significant distance” to ensure she got home safely.

The Good Samaritan, or anyone else who has information about the sexual assault, is asked to call police at 604-717-0604.
