RCMP’s Fraser Valley Traffic Services (FVTS) are looking for any eyewitnesses to a Highway 1 incident last Thursday that saw a pedestrian struck near the Vedder Road exit.
Police and emergency services responded at about 6:30 p.m. on Nov. 12 to the collision in the eastbound lanes of Highway 1 near the Vedder on-ramp.
“Upon arrival it was determined that a vehicle had struck a pedestrian in the eastbound fast lane, severely injuring the pedestrian,” Cpl. Mike Halskov said in release.
It was a man in his 30s from the local area.
“Speed and impairment have been ruled out” as factors in the crash, police say.
The driver remained at the scene and is co-operating with police investigators while in hospital with serious injuries.
Police would like to speak with the driver or passengers of a white SUV which “narrowly missed the pedestrian.”
The pedestrian was struck by the vehicle that was behind the white SUV.
Anyone with information who has yet to speak with a police officer, is asked to call FVTS in Chilliwack at 604-702-4039, citing file 2020-47970.
