Chilliwack RCMP Traffic Services used an ‘eye in the sky’ to catch distracted drivers on the last day of March, capping off a month-long crackdown.

Supported by the City of Chilliwack’s Safer City team, police employed a bucket truck to get a bird’s eye view at the busy intersection of Vedder Road and Luckakuck Way. The tactic was successful, adding to a ticket tally of 147 for the entire month.

“Distracted driving is a dangerous habit practiced by too many drivers on our roadways,” said Chilliwack RCMP Cpl. Mike Pfeifer. “Through enforcement and education we remain dedicated to ensuring safer highways to the travelling public in our community.”

Pfeifer offered the following tips to prevent distracted driving.

- Leave the phone alone and minimize potential distractions before you head out on the road.

- Plan your route and secure your pets.

- Keep your eyes on the road and your hands on the steering wheel.
