New damage on the Schep Park gazebo in Agassiz that appeared in ‘The Republic of Sarah’ has prompted some residents to suspect vandalism is involved.

A post on local social media showcased the damaged patterned railing along at least two sides of the gazebo, which the ‘Republic of Sarah’ film crew donated to the District of Kent in 2019. On one side, half of the decorative portion of the railing is missing while other sides sustained lighter but still visible damage.

The damage was posted online on Halloween, and, as of Monday, Nov. 8, it had not yet been fully repaired.

‘The Republic of Sarah’ was both a TV movie filmed in 2019 and a one-season drama series for CW that aired this year. ‘The Republic of Sarah’ followed high school teacher Sarah Cooper, fighting to save her town from a greedy mining company by using a cartographic loophole to declare it an independent nation.

The final of 10 episodes aired on Sept. 6 of this year.
