Rough it 4 RAN

Ruth and Naomi’s invites Chilliwack to camp for a cause

The fundraiser takes place June 19, raising money to provide services for at-risk youth and adults

Ruth and Naomi’s Mission is introducing a new fundraiser in June, inviting Chilliwackians to ‘Rough it 4 RAN.’

Local families are invited to get their camping gear out of winter storage and spend a night outside, raising money and awareness for at-risk youth and adults who are forced to rough it on the streets.

The event happens June 19 and according to its Facebook page.

Participants can camp out wherever they like and however they like, and creativity is encouraged. Campers can come up with a fun team name and upload pictures of their camping setup to social media with the hashtag #Roughingit4RAN. A prize will be awarded to the best camping site, and there will be other draws.

RAN staff will be visiting several campsites, surprising lucky campers with prizes.

‘In this current climate, with all the imposed limitations on fundraising events, we want to give families and individuals alike the opportunity to have some fun and get involved, and Camping for a Cause seems like a great way to do this,” said Ruth and Naomi’s Executive Director Bill Raddatz.

Because it is a fundraiser, the registration fee is $25 per person, which includes a custom Roughing it 4 RAN toque. Campers are also encouraged to gather pledges from friends and family. According to the event’s Facebook page, “Every dollar raised will go directly towards our efforts to provide shelter, health care, addictions treatment and warm meals for Chilliwack’s most vulnerable!”

“We are hoping for strong community engagement in both the camping and the fundraising aspects,” Raddatz said. “We rely heavily on the generosity of our community to be able to provide essential services to those struggling with poverty, homelessness and addiction. We hope Chilliwack will jump on board with this family-fun event.”
