The state of local emergency for the District of Kent is officially over.

The month-long SOLE triggered by November’s flooding and landslides that devastated thousands of people across the Fraser Valley.

Locally, Agassiz played a critical role in the rescue of hundreds of stranded motorists along Highway 7 as two major landslides closed the highway east and west of Agassiz. The Agassiz Agricultural Centre and Community Recreation and Cultural Centre both acted as shelters for stranded travellers and eventually their vehicles as emergency crews worked around the clock to get traffic moving again and travellers on their way home.

A portion of Rockwell Drive and a number of other roads in the area were evacuated during the floods as the road near Harrison Lake sustained heavy damage due to flowing water and landslides. The evacuation order was lifted as of Dec. 3.
