The Agassiz RCMP are continuing to investigate at least 17 vandalized trees in East Sector Park in Harrison Hot Springs.

Sgt. Mike Sargent said while there is no further information released at this time, the Agassiz RCMP have requested any member of the public with information about the damages done to the trees to contact them as soon as possible. The local RCMP can be reached at 604-796-2211.

The trees, spotted by local Realtor Freddy Marks last Thursday, were found with pieces of trunk missing. Marks told Black Press Media that the damage happened over three or four days.

It is unclear how many people were involved or why portions of the tree were removed.

Jaime Reilly, acting director of corporate affairs with the Fraser Valley Regional District, said parks staff were sent to the area to look into the incident. The RCMP are conducting an investigation and will update the FVRD as further information becomes available.

The East Sector Lands Recreation Site is a 316-acre nature park located in Harrison Hot Springs with wetlands, coniferous and deciduous forests, and is classified as a “ecologically sensitive area,” according to the district website.

More to come.
