A second, unrelated crash, happened less than 20 minutes later.
It occurred further north in Langley, in the rural neighbourhood of Glen Valley, resulting in the death of one man.
It occurred about 2:45 p.m. near the intersection of River and Armstrong Roads - just east of Fort Langley.
Langley RCMP reported a Honda Civic was heading east on River Road near Armstrong Road around 2:45 p.m. when it went off-road, then came back out of the ditch and crashed.
Witnesses reported seeing the car “fly” out of the ditch and through the air.
When it came to rest, some people ran over to administer aid, but found the vehicle empty.
A deceased man was found under the vehicle.
A deceased man, believed to be the driver, was found under the vehicle.
The other occupant was found in the ditch and taken in an advanced life support ambulance to Royal Columbian Hospital in serious condition.
He was interviewed by police in hospital later that afternoon.
Both the passenger, 36, and driver, 38, were from Langley, said Langley RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Holly Largy.
Investigators believe “speed and alcohol were factors” in the crash, she added.
Roads through the rural area were closed most of the day while accident investigators examined the scene.
Police are hoping any other witnesses – who have not already been interviewed on scene – will contact the Langley RCMP at 604-532-3200.
