UPDATE: Still searching for 22-year-old missing near the Fraser River in Chilliwack Monday

Jess Austin Nadin went fishing and was reported missing at 11:30 a.m on Sept. 13

More than a day after friends, family and emergency responders searched for a missing young man on the banks of the Fraser River, there was no sign of him.

Jess Austin Nadin, 22, was dropped off by a relative at the river to go fishing at Ballam Road at approximately 10:30 a.m. on Monday (Sept. 13).

Nadin was reported missing to RCMP at approximately 11:30 a.m.

Chilliwack Search and Rescue (CSAR) crews and the RCMP’s Lower Mainland Integrated Police Dog Services was called in to scour the banks nearby where Nadin was last seen.

Chilliwack RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Mike Rail said the RCMP’s Underwater Recovery Team were not able to go into the water as the conditions were considered to be too dangerous, with water too high and running too fast.

There were tears and hugs on Ballam Road on the river bank late Monday afternoon among a small group of people, including his parents, as fears for the worst were considered.

Rail said there was no sign of Nadin by the end of day Monday and the CSAR was scheduled to go out again on Tuesday morning.

Rail also had some safety advice for friends and family out looking.

“I know there are a lot of family and friends searching so we just remind everyone to be really careful if they are searching and be cognizant that the water conditions are dangerous.”
