Village to commemorate 100th anniversary of Vimy Ridge

A ceremony to celebrate an important piece of Canadian history hosted by the Agassiz Legion and the Village on Sunday

The Village of Harrison Hot Springs has partnered with the Agassiz Royal Canadian Legion Branch #32 to commemorate the 100th Anniversary of Vimy Ridge. Mayor and Council would like to invite you and your families to join them as they acknowledge an important piece of Canadian history.

“I hope your family will join mine as we commemorate the 100th Anniversary of Vimy Ridge,” said Mayor Leo Facio.

The battle, which took place on Apr. 9 1917 is commonly highlighted as the turning point in Canadian history. Four Canadian divisions fought together as a unified fighting force for the first time. While 3,598 Canadian Canadian soldiers were killed during the battle, the impressive victory is often cited as the beginning of Canada’s evolution from dominion to independent nation.”

The procession will start from Memorial Hall (located on Esplanade Avenue) at 11:45 a.m. with the official ceremony at 12 p.m. at the Civic Plaza in Harrison Hot Springs.
