A widespread power outage hit the eastern Fraser Valley, including Hope, Wednesday morning.

Power went out at about 9:35 a.m., out as far as Ruby Creek (along Lougheed Highway) and to Sunshine Valley (Highway 3). More than 5,000 customers were without power.

BC Hydro lists the three linked power outages as a transmission circuit failure. Altogether, more than 5,000 customers were affected.

The power was listed to be restored by noon, but was back on downtown Hope just before 11 a.m. Other areas are still waiting for restoration.

Meanwhile the Hope Fire Department reported they attended a call with a “tree impacting a power line” that may have caused the outages.
