October 4, 1931 - March 29, 2022
Betty passed away on March 29, 2022 at Heritage Village in Chilliwack BC at the age of 90. She was born on October 4, 1931 in Wolfville, Nova Scotia. Betty is survived by her children Stephanie Key (Dave) and Dan Smith (Sue), and grandchildren Shannon, Conor and Phoebe.
After suffering with dementia and failing eyesight over the past few years, Betty is finally at rest. She was predeceased by her husband Richard (Dick) Smith in 2019 and will be laid to rest with him.
Betty graduated from business school in Nova Scotia and after two years of work in Nova Scotia came to Vancouver in her early 20's and worked in a law office. She met Dick in Vancouver where they were married in 1958 before moving to Chilliwack in 1959. They settled in Chilliwack where their two children were born and raised. She resided in Chilliwack until moving into Cheam Village in Agassiz in 2019 and then moving to Heritage Village in late 2021.
Through Betty's 90 years she was involved in a variety of activities giving of her time to St. Thomas Anglican Church, her children's sports activities and her husband's activities, in particular his involvement with rifle shooting.
Betty cherished her grandchildren and had a soft spot for animals, in particular cats of which she had many over the years. She also enjoyed visiting with friends, leisurely walks, gardening, reading and travelling with Dick.
Special thanks are extended to those who helped Betty especially in her later years, Kay Pitcarin, Willie Nelson and the staff at Cheam Village and Heritage Village.
Betty will be interred in Chilliwack Cemetery with Dick.
A private family gathering will be held later in the year. Memorial donations may be made to the Pacific Alzheimer Research Foundation or the CNIB Foundation.
