May 16, 2021
On May 16, 2021, Colin passed away peacefully to be with his Lord Jesus.
Colin lived out his values and beliefs in a myriad of ways supporting and loving others. He was deeply committed to his faith and family. For 25 years he extended kindness and support to patients, colleagues and students as chaplain at the BC Cancer Clinic (1976-2002).
He worked with Brazilian college students for 8 years partnering with his wife Audrey who provided health care in the favelas of urban São Paulo, Brazil (1967-1975). After graduating from UBC in 1962, he volunteered to teach English at a high school in a remote jungle village in Sarawak, Malaysia.
He proposed by mail and Audrey, his sweetheart, came out to marry him in SE Asia (1963).
They retired to Harrison Hot Springs in 2011. He lived faithfully and loved his Lord, family, friends and strangers (who often became friends).
Colin is survived by his wife Audrey of 58 years and his children David (Heather) Johnstone, Lyanne (Rick) Eggert and Andy (Sandy) Johnstone and 8 grandchildren (one grandchild-in-law).
While we are sad, there is peace knowing that he is now a part of the biblical cloud of witnesses cheering us on (Heb 12:1).
Thank you to Agassiz Senior Community care home staff and their ongoing care and support for Colin as he fought Alzheimer's disease in his last years.
We will be doing a virtual celebration for Colin in the near future.
