October 30, 1929 - August 4, 2020
It is with great sadness that we announce Doris passed away peacefully on August 4, 2020 at the age of 90 years young. She retained her sassy personality and sly sense of humour to the end.
Born on October 30, 1929 in Vancouver, she spent her formative years on the family homestead with her grandparents and extended family in Qu'Appelle, Saskatchewan, times that she cherished all her life. She moved West at 14 to live with her father in White Rock, later moving to Harrison Hot Springs with her family in 1945.
Doris had a long career in the hotel and hospitality industry over the years, working in San Francisco, Seattle, and Vancouver before returning to the Fraser Valley in the early 1970s where she lived the remainder of her life.
Doris loved to be part of the community and ran the Harrison Boat Launch with her husband Jack for several years. In that time, they were instrumental in bringing the Hobie-Cat Regatta to Harrison Lake which is still held to this day. In her later years, she enjoyed volunteering at the Sand Sculpture Competition, the Agassiz-Harrison Museum, and Agassiz Legion.
She was never afraid of making friends everywhere she went and could work a room like no one else. The Agassiz Fall Fair was one of the highlights of her year as she always looked forward to catching up with everyone. She was a master storyteller, always regaling us with heartwarming and often hilarious tales about her wonderful life well and fully lived.
Special thanks go out to the staff of Logan Manor and Heritage Village for such loving care and attention these last few years.
Predeceased by her husband Jack, she will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by family and friends.
