April 9, 1933 - November 27, 2022
Eddie was born in Roselynn Alberta, in the Hanna area, where he grew up and worked on the farms in the Huxley District. There he met his forever sweetheart Shirley, and they married January 14, 1956 in Trochu, Alberta. Shortly thereafter they moved to BC, where they lived in various locations in the Chilliwack area. Their final residence together was the "Hazelwood Grove" on Young Road.
Eddie was a man of many talents and interests, including music, growing beautiful roses and his bird sanctuary, of which he was especially fond of. Eddie worked for "Pete Heppner and Son" trucking for 51 years, and became known in the community as their "Cat Man." Eddie's spiritual journey was very important to him. He was involved in the work of the church, in prison ministries (M2 W2), and was asked to speak or moderate on many occasions. During the Covid years, Eddie wrote an autobiography entitled "The Life and Memoirs of Fast Eddie".
Eddie is survived by his loving wife, Shirley, his 3 children and their spouses, Laura (Gary), Dean (Jenny) and Scott (Nagwa), 9 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Diane (Harv) Toews, sister in laws, Rita Martin and Joyce Martin. He was pre-deceased by his parents, Albert and Ida Martin, sister Irene (Leischner) and brothers Dave and Clarence. Eddie fought a year long battle with cancer with bravery and much courage. The family would like to thank Dr. Scott Bakker for his excellent care and concern, the nurses that provided home care and the wonderful staff at Cascades Hospice.
Rest in peace, Fast Eddie. You have run the race well. A Celebration of Life will take place on April 10th, 2023, at the Chilliwack Alliance Church.
We love you, and we miss you.
