LUYAT, Elsie (Carlson)

June 17, 1910 - April 7, 2009

Our beautiful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend made her transition from this life in her 99th year. Born in Greenwood, raised in Vancouver, she moved to Sumas Prairie with her parents John and Emma Carlson in 1930. Educated at Pitman's Business College, she held secretarial positions with Brand's Florist in Vancouver and Eddy's Nursery in Sardis. In 1937 she married, Jonas Luyat, owner/operator of Canal Garage in Sumas Prairie. The family moved to Agassiz in 1950 to take over the family farm.

Predeceased by parents, husband Jonas in 1989, brother Ernie in 1997, and beloved cat Percy in Dec./08. She is survived by daughters: Joyce Crawford (Dan) of Surrey, and Karen Craig (Ian) of Abbotsford; 4 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; and, an extended family of nieces and nephews who loved her dearly.

A devoted mother and family matriarch, Mom lived her life in a quiet and unassuming way - always putting others at ease. We are left with a hole in our hearts but a legacy of strength and courage. She lived independently in her home on Pioneer Avenue until age 93 and was resident at Logan Manor since 2003.

A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, April 18th at 2:00 PM, Agassiz United Church, 6860 Lougheed Hwy, Agassiz. Since our mother loved flowers, we are asking attendees to bring a flower of their choice to add to a communal bouquet at the church. Alternatively donations may be made to CNIB, Library Services, BC Division, #100 - 5055 Joyce St., Vancouver, V5R 6B2
