May 23, 1930 – May 2, 2021
On May 2, 2021 Elsie Perry passed away peacefully at the Waverly Seniors Village, Chilliwack BC.
Elsie wants to be remembered for her love of God and her family. She was born “Elsie Goudie” and grew up in Toronto, ON. She was the youngest of four children. Her mother ran a nursing home and so caring for others figured prominently in her commitments from an early age, as did active involvement in a faith community.
After high school, Elsie attended Prairie Bible Institute in Three Hills Alberta.
She met and married William, “Bill”, Perry (1954) in Toronto. They moved to BC in 1962, living first in Kitimat and then coming to Chilliwack, where Bill took up the ministry at Cooks Presbyterian Church. Elsie is survived by Douglas (son) and wife, Corita; Nancy (daughter) and husband, Phil; Gillian (daughter), Harv (son-in-law) and Lucy (granddaughter); brother, George Goudie, who lives in Wichita, Kansas; and Ginger (beloved kitty), now living with Nancy and Phil.
Elsie worked as an office/medical assistant to Dr. Balisky (ophthalmologist). Once retired, she filled her days with a wide range of volunteer activities: reading with young children at Bernard Elementary School, providing pastoral visits at Chilliwack General Hospital, serving as Treasurer for the Rose Arbor Strata Council, and leading the prayer chain at the Chilliwack Alliance Church.
Family, friends and caregivers describe Elsie as a “real sweetheart” with a great sense of humour, some say feisty, and a deep and abiding faith.
Elsie will rest in peace in the beautiful Chilliwack Cemetery. In keeping with the times, a small but meaningful graveside service for family will be held to honour her life (May 14, 2021). You can view the service at Hendersonsfunerals.com (see Recent Obituaries). In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to support one of the mission/outreach programs at Chilliwack Alliance Church (Mexico: https://ppay.co/C5h3mP7izZE; Peru: https://ppay.co/qA4RKUueRXE) or World Vision (https://www.worldvision.ca).
