Harriet passed away peacefully on September 26, 2017 at the age of 88, with her loving family by her side.

Born to Wopke and Martje Brander in Drachtstercompagnie, Friesland, Netherlands. In 1950 after marrying the love of her life Durk, the couple immigrated to California, USA. A son, Barry, was welcomed in 1951. In 1954 the family made their way to Agassiz and in 1957 purchased the family farm in which they owned for many years. They went on to have 2 more sons; Wayne (1956) and Roy (1962).

Working on the farm and raising her boys made Harriet's days full and complete. In the later years, Harriet and Durk loved to spend time square dancing, floor curling, playing cards with close friends and family, travelling and going on many fishing trips. She was also a long time member of the Agassiz United Church.

Family and friends were always made to feel welcome in their home. She will always be remembered for her kindness and everlasting smile.

Predeceased by husband Durk, parents Wopke & Martje, brother Hendrik, sister Trientje, brother-in-laws Tjeerd Jager, Bareld Nieuwenhuis, Tjeerd Sikkema, sister-in-laws Froukje Vander Wyk and Aafke Sikkema.

Survived by her sister Griet, brother-in-laws Wiebe, Norm (Pat). Children Barry (Jean), Wayne, Roy (Stacy). Seven grandchildren; Randy (Samantha), Dallas, Nicole, Devan, Terron, Sydney, Rionna, and four great grandchildren; Sharlise, Austin, Nathaniel, and Graysen.

A memorial service will be held on October 6, 2017 at 1:00 pm at the Agassiz United Church. Interment at Valley View Cemetery.

If friends and family desire, donations can be made in memory of Durk and Harriet Vander Wyk to the Burnaby Hospital, Chilliwack General Hospital, Children's Hospital, or a charity of your choice.
