July 1, 1943 - May 10, 2024
With heavy hearts we wish to announce the passing of Margaret George, who left us peacefully on Friday, May 10th after a short illness, six years to the day she lost her beloved husband, Mike. Although we miss them dearly, we're comforted in the fact that they are together again, and no doubt are kicking back in their cabana clothes sipping on one of Mum's infamous rum cocktails and catching up.
Margaret was born in New Westminster on July 1, 1943, and in 1945 moved to the village of Harrison Hot Springs with her family where she spent the majority of her life. She always joked that Harrison threw her a birthday party every year - complete with fireworks and a parade!
She and her husband Mike were entrepreneurs and owned several businesses together; The Cocktail Shaker, Cornflower Teahouse, and their pride & joy DragonFly Gifts in Harrison which they owned for almost 30 years. Margaret had a creative eye and a flair for design both in her home and in the unique merchandise she curated for her shops, making DragonFly a must-stop for locals and visitors from around the world.
Margaret loved books, art, theatre, entertaining friends, and had a sense of wanderlust for adventure and travel. She always spoke with fondness and laughter of the trip she went on with her best friend Sharon when they took a freighter from Vancouver to Hong Kong in the 1960s.
She and Mike travelled to many places in the world together but fell in love with Costa Rica, where they spent winters in their home "Casa Libélula" (Dragonfly House) for many years.
We remember all the fun we had with Mum recently on our trips together to Vegas, our road trip to Ottawa, and our regular jaunts across the border to spend time near the ocean which she loved.
Big hugs to the whole team at The Hawthorn (Elim Village Garrison) for your incredible care and friendship to Margaret and the compassion of the staff and volunteers at Cascade Hospice who looked after her in her final days.
Predeceased by her husband Mike, first husband Eustathios, parents Ruby and Tony, and sister Doris. She will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by her daughter Rilla (Adam) and many friends.
