METCALFE, Olive Doreen

Olive Doreen Metcalfe a resident of Harrison Hot Springs, formerly of West Vancouver and Gibsons. She died peacefully surrounded by her family on January 13, 2006. Olive was born in Heanor England March 6, 1915. On graduation from school Olive worked for H & R Morley & Co in Heanor, England and was married in Heanor August 1, 1935. Olive emigrated to Canada in 1953. She travelled extensively in Europe, Canada and the United States. A member of the "Toc-H" in the United Kingdom. A much loved Brown Owl to hundreds of little girls of the Girl Guides in England and Canada. A "Scout Mom" with the Boy Scouts organization. An active member of the Anglican Church Women (Formerly Women's Axillary). For many years a leader with Anglican Junior Axillary and Girls Axillary groups. Also active on Church Council, committees and the Altar Guilds in many Anglican Churches. Member and President of Parent-Teacher Associations in elementary and secondary schools. Olive loved to travel, was an avid reader and loved to sew and knit. Her knitting won her many prizes at the Agassiz Corn Festival during the last 12 years or so. A great homemaker, her family and church were of prime importance to her. Olive was predeceased by her beloved husband "Chum" Percy. Her parents Florence and Albert Fletcher, brothers George and Reginald and her sister Joan. She is survived by her daughters Monica (Tauno "Tom") Hautala of Harrison Hot Springs BC, Josephine (John) Moore of Nepean, Ontario and son Stewart (Teresa) Metcalfe of Sedro Woolley, Washington. 8 grandchildren; John, Peter, Natasha, Hillary, Maureen, Marit, Spencer, Joanne and spouses. 9 great grandchildren; Tanya, Kimberley, Karaleigh, Joshua, Matthew, Ashley, Falynne, Christina and Brent. 1 great-great granddaughter Farah and Alena Avdeenko-Belarus a child affected by the Chernobyl disaster. Many relatives and friends in the United Kingdom, the United States and across Canada. Prayer service and visitation Tuesday Jan 17, 2006 at 7:30 pm Agassiz United Church, 6860 Lougheed Highway, Agassiz BC. Funeral Service Agassiz United Church Wednesday Jan 18, 2006 at 3:00 pm. Our most sincere and heartfelt thanks to Emergency Services Fraser Canyon Hospital, Hope BC. All the staff at Chilliwack General Hospital especially (the 4th floor medical) and Bradley Centre for all the care and compassion shown to Olive and her family. Special thanks to Agassiz Health Centre and Dr. Jeff Pocock, Rev. Archie Pell of Christ Church, Anglican Church in Hope BC.
