Mayor and council in The Village of Harrison Hot Springs deliberate as to the fate of the boat launch facility parking fee.

The Village of Harrison Hot Springs mayor and council are deliberating whether or not to pass the motion to increase the boat launch parking fee from $7 to $10.

The item originally came up late last year in the Boat Launch Year End Report, and the matter was postponed until the Feb. 20 meeting.

The pay parking zones were set at $10 per day, as opposed to the $7 fee posted by the boat launch facility.

To save a few dollars, people were parking in the boat launch only parking area, but not using the boat launch for the purpose in which it was intended.

“They simply parked there because it was cheaper — in addition, people who parked there took space where a boat launch facility user could park,” said a staff report presented to council.

The change will be made on the basis that matching the fee to its counterpart would discontinue the trend of visitors parking in the boat launch facility, where unnecessary.

At the Mar. 6 council meeting it was moved by council that the amendment to the Boat Launch Facility and Parking Lot Regulation Amendment Bylaw No. 1102 be given three readings before a final decision is made on the fate of its final rate.

The boat launch facility is scheduled to open Mar. 31, 2017.
