Chilliwack Chiefs fans will have a player to watch at this year’s IIHF World Junior Hockey Championships.

Forward Ray Fust was officially named to Team Switzerland’s 25 player roster on Wednesday, and will lead his team into battle Friday in their opening game against Slovakia.

The game will be broadcast on TSN 3 and 5 with an 11 a.m. PST puck drop.

The tournament is being held in Edmonton and Red Deer.

Fust won’t be the only BCHLer on the Swiss roster, with Penticton Vee Stefano Bottini also named to the forward corps.

Fust, Bottino and the rest have a tough road ahead. They’ve been placed in Group A, which includes traditional powers Canada and Finland along with Germany and Slovakia. Group B is even tougher with Sweden, Russia and the United States joined by the Czech Republic and Austria.

Round robin play continues until Dec. 31. Quarter-finals are Jan. 2, semi-finals are Jan. 4 and the bronze and gold medal games take place Jan. 5.
