Veteran Chilliwack Chiefs defenceman Xavier Henry has an NCAA commitment.
The towering blueliner will be joining the Vermont Catamounts in 2022-23, after finishing out his 20-year-old season in the BCHL. The Ontario product is in his third season with Chilliwack, and has two goals, five points and 25 penalty minutes so far.
In 76 career regular season and playoff games, the defensive-minded D-man has six goals, 25 points and 70 penalty minutes.
Chilliwack hockey boss Brian Maloney said the man known as X has been a huge part of the Chiefs’ leadership group this year, and his coaches are happy with his progression on and off the ice.
“X is a player who has worked for everything he has gotten in this game.” Maloney said. “We are all so happy for Xavier and know that he will be a great addition to Vermont’s defence next season.”
Henry will play for Vermont coach Todd Woodcroft and said the Catamounts coaching staff was a major selling point.
“Choosing Vermont throughout this process was a no-brainer for me,” he said. “The professionalism of the coaching staff and how they approach the game is what really caught my eye. They believe in me, and I believe in what they are trying to build.”
