Chilliwack Chiefs alum Jordan Kawaguchi collects two points in first pro hockey game

Kawaguchi had a goal and an assist for the Texas Stars in an American Hockey League match

One game, one goal for Jordan Kawaguchi.

The all-time Chilliwack Chiefs great made his professional hockey debut Tuesday night, suiting up for the Texas Stars.

The American Hockey League affiliate of the National Hockey League’s Dallas Stars faced the Colorado Eagles, and Kawaguchi scored the second Texas goal in a 5-4 loss.

The Abbotsford product and recent graduate of the University of North Dakota took a pass from linemate Max Barton, skated into the high slot and ripped a short-side shot past the Colorado keeper. The goalie he beat was a former foe from the BCHL. Hunter Miska tended net for the Penticton Vees from 2013-15 when Kawaguchi was breaking in with Chilliwack.

Miska has been in the pro ranks since 2017-18 and has five NHL games to his credit (four with the Colorado Avalanche and one with the Arizona Coyotes).

Kawaguchi collected an assist in the third period when Miska let a rebound from a Gooch shot settle in the blue paint and Thomas Harley tapped it home.
