The Chilliwack Chiefs fell victim to a hot goaltender Wednesday night (Nov. 3), and fell below .500 for the first time this season.
The Chiefs (4-5-0-0) hosted the Surrey Eagles (4-5-0-0) in a BCHL battle at the Chilliwack Coliseum, and Max Prazma stole the show. The 19-year-old from Calgary stopped 32 of 33 shots, earning his first win in six appearances.
Abbotsford product Dawson Good beat him on a Chilliwack power play 9:22 into the first period, with assists to Cameron Johnson and Connor Milburn.
And that was it.
While he shut the door at one end, Surrey’s Grayden Slipec tied the game at 16:56 of the opening frame. Ex-Chief Jacob Slipec set up the game winner at 11:31 of period three, scored by Michael Abgrall.
Grant Riley stopped 14 of 16 shots in the Chilliwack net.
“We were robbed last night,” said Chiefs hockey boss Brian Maloney. Spent over half the game in the offensive zone. Scoring chances were 24-8 for us at even strength. We were 100 per cent on the power play and penalty kill. We don’t lose many playing like that.”
The Chiefs now hit the road for a pair of games Friday and Saturday (Nov. 5 and 6) against the Powell River Kings (3-5-1-0).
Chilliwack’s next home game is Nov. 12 with a 7 p.m. start against the Victoria Grizzlies (7-3-0-0).
