Chilliwack takes first in dragon boat challenge

City team comes out ahead, paddling on Harrison Lake

The Fraser Valley Dragon Boat Club hosted the annual Community Challenge dragon boat races on Harrison Lake on June 28. This year, six corporate teams participated in several weeks of training and practice followed by the day’s fun and competitive racing.

Results:
"A" final: 1st City of Chilliwack, 2nd place Baker Newby
"B" final: 1st Cascade 'Water Bombers', 2nd Stó-lo ‘Tsunami'

"C" final: 1st City of Mission, 2nd Chilliwack Society for Community Living

Members of many of the teams echoed similar sentiments - the experience of having co-workers pulling together in a dragon boat, sharing this unique sport and experience, and having fun promotes camaraderie, team building and positive energy among each team.

A day of friendly competition and great racing had teams already talking about coming back next year. Bragging rights and this year’s trophy for first place went to the City of Chilliwack.

If you would like to build a corporate team to compete in next year’s event, or try the sport of dragon boating or outrigger canoe paddling, contact the Fraser Valley Dragon Boat Club.
