Former Chilliwack Chiefs captain Jordan Kawaguchi has been named a first-team All-Conference player by the National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC).

The NCHC revealed first, second and third teamers Monday.

Kawaguchi, a senior at the University of North Dakota, received 13 first-team votes, falling two votes shy of unanimous selection. His UND teammate, Shane Pinto, was the only unanimous selection with 15 first-team ballots.

Kawaguchi, who captains UND, makes the first team for the second straight season. The Abbotsford product isn’t producing at quite the same rate as he did in 2019-20, but with seven goals and 27 points in 23 games, he’s not struggling either.

His point total is second highest in the NCHC. His 20 assists lead the conference and he has two game winning goals to his credit.

Kawaguchi’s Fighting Hawks are first in the conference with an 18-5-1 record, and once his NCAA season (and career) are done, he is expected to be on the radar of several National Hockey League teams looking to sign college free agents.
