The BCHL provided an update on the Surrey Eagles COVID situation Friday morning, saying an ‘outbreak’ has been limited to just one player.
The league cancelled two games last weekend after a member of the junior A club tested positive for the virus.
One of those games was a scheduled Saturday nighter at the Chilliwack Coliseum between the Chiefs and Coquitlam Express, one night after Chilliwack hosted Surrey.
The other cancelled game was an Eagles vs Langley Rivermen match.

“Although the player in question was not in the building on Friday and was not with the team in the week leading up to their game, in an effort to be as cautious as possible the two games were cancelled,” the league said in a news release. “After the games were cancelled on Saturday, all members of the Surrey Eagles were tested for COVID-19 and all came back negative.
“The player in question was in contact with a person outside of his hockey circle who showed symptoms early in the week and ended up testing positive. The player in question had been in contact with this person and was tested on Friday once he started to experience symptoms. The player isolated, as instructed, until the results came back.”
Surrey has no scheduled games this weekend, but the Chiefs have been given the green light to travel to Coquitlam tonight (Friday) for a road game against the Express.
The BCHL is working with PRIVIT online medical database, with players performing daily COVID-19 screening tests. According to the league, the Surrey case is the only one so far.
