Jackson Jacob of the University of the Fraser Valley Cascades golf captured the individual title at the Canadian University/College Championship in Komoka, Ont., which concluded on Friday (June 2).

He played four rounds of under par over the four day event to earn the title.

Jacob finished with a score of 17-under to win the individual title by eight strokes over Liam Mosher of the University of Victoria.

“This has been the best accomplishment of my career so far, and I’m really proud of the consistency that I showed,” Jacob said after his win. “I have never had four rounds in a four-round tournament under par before, and I am super proud of that.”

With the individual title win, Jacob earns an exemption into the 118th Canadian Men’s Amateur which takes place from Aug. 5 to 10 at the Pulpit Club in Caledon, Ont.

Cascades head coach Aaron Pauls had high praise for Jacob’s performance in the tournament.

“Jackson played unbelievable, and I’m not really shocked by that, he’s been playing ridiculous for a while now, and just very consistent. He totally deserved to win the tournament.”

Jacob posted rounds of 68, 71, 63, and 69 to capture the individual win

The Cascades as a team came into the final round in third place, just two shots back of the lead, but were unable to make up any ground as they ended the four-round tournament in the bronze position. Eli Greene finished tied for 17th with a score of +5 (77, 73, 66, 77). Ben Whiton finished tied for 32nd at +14 (76, 76, 69, 81) with Jacob Armstrong posting rounds of 78, 73, 78, and 76 to finish at +17 in 36th. Andrew Biggar rounded out the Cascades entries finishing in 39th at +19 (79, 75, 73, 80).

The event marked the final event for Pauls as head coach of the men’s program.

Meanwhile the women placed fifth as a team at the event.

They posted a score of +77 over the four round event, with Emery Bardock ending the tournament as UFV’s top individual finisher in 14th place (+25).

“Overall we played 60 pretty good holes, and some of the best golf that we have played this year and when it came down to it we just didn’t quite have it in the last 12,” noted Cascades head coach Cody Stewart. “We crept towards the podium but unfortunately we just didn’t have it today.”

Bardock posted rounds of 86, 76, 73, and 82 enroute to her 14th place finish. Teammate Lucy Park finished one stroke behind at +25 (74, 81, 78, 85), while Coral Hamade ended at +33 (77, 87, 82, 79), and Avery Biggar rounded out the UFV participants at +66 (87, 80, 91, 100).

The event was the final tournament for Bardock and coach Stewart, who will also be moving on in his coaching career.
