The local Legion hall has some new additions.

Royal Canadian Legion Branch 32 announced that a project to erect six flagpoles in front of the Agassiz hall is complete. Three of the new flagpoles will display the Canadian flag, the B.C. flag and the Royal Canadian Legion flag. In honour of veterans in various branches of the Canadian military, the other three flagpoles will display ensigns from the Royal Canadian Air Force, Canadian Armed Forces and the Royal Canadian Navy.

A number of local organizations and people donated to the cause. The District of Kent augured the holes for the flagpoles while Constar Concrete donated the concrete work for the base of the flagpoles, with concrete donated from Agassiz Ready Mix. Dave Lyman and the Quality Pole Company donated the poles themselves.

“Without the generosity of these organizations, companies and people, this project would not have been completed,” said local Legion spokesperson Dave Eidet.

In addition to promoting Remembrance Day, the Royal Canadian Legion supports veterans of the Canadian military as well as the RCMP. They have more than 250,000 members across the nation.
