More than 600 to compete at BC Skills event in Abbotsford

More than 600 competitors from across B.C. will take part in the Skills Canada Provincial Trades and Technology Competition on Wednesday, April 17 at Tradex in Abbotsford.

The event features winners of regional skills events competing in 56 different trade and technology categories for a chance to advance to the national event from May 29 to June 1 in Quebec City.

Contest areas include carpentry, the culinary arts, fashion technology, welding, automotive collision repair, hairdressing, electronics and computer animation.

The event also includes the Junior Skills competitions, where younger students participate in fun projects such as sumo robots, wind turbines, spaghetti bridge and potential energy vehicles.

The series of competitions culminates with the World Skills event running Sept. 10 to 15 in Lyon, France.

The event in Abbotsford starts at 8 a.m., with the medal ceremony at 5:30 p.m. Admission is free, and the public is welcome. Visit skillscanada.bc.ca for more information.
