A person living in a camping trailer was not injured after their home was completely destroyed by fire on Lickman Road in the early morning hours of Saturday.

Crews with the Chilliwack Fire Department were called to the blaze just before 3 a.m. on March 23.

It happened in the 8000-block of Lickman Road south of the railroad racks between Progress Way and Yale Road. It was initially reported that neighbouring trailers were under threat or already alight before firefighters arrived.

There was “heavy smoke” visible by firefighters en route, assistant fire chief Krista Minar stated in a press release.

When they arrived on scene, the lone occupant was outside the fifth-wheel trailer amidst thick smoke and flames, she added.

The property is home to West Coast Amusements and the lot was filled with semi-trucks, plus several camping trailers and other vehicles.

Firefighters acted quickly to contain and extinguish the fire, limiting the damage to the primary trailer. Due to the close proximity of other trailers, there was minor exposure damage to the neighbouring units.

“Their swift action prevented potential further damage, allowing nearby residents to return safely to their units,” Minar said. “We are proud to commend the hard work and dedication of our crews in swiftly bringing the situation under control.”

Emergency Support Services were notified and are on standby if needed.

The fire’s cause is currently under investigation, with initial assessments indicating it was accidental and likely electrical in nature.

Approximately 18 firefighters from Halls 1 and 4 responded. There were no firefighter injuries.

The Chilliwack Progress has reached out to West Coast Amusements. Check back for more information as it becomes available.
